January 15 is National Hat Day! You can wear a hat you already have or make your own with these craft ideas!

Jester Hat

Materials:

  • Construction Paper (multiple colors)
  • Scissors
  • Glue or Tape
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Jingle bells (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut a 2 inch wide strip from the construction paper. Glue the ends of the paper strip together to make the headband.
  2. Draw and Cut 6 triangles on 6 different colors of construction paper. The triangles should be about 2 inches wide and 10 inches long.
  3. Glue or tape the triangles around the inside of the head band.
  4. Draw and Cut 12 round circles from the construction paper.
  5. Glue the circles on the tips of each side of the triangles.

Ladybug Hat

Materials:

  • 1 sheet of red 8.5 x 11 inch card stock
  • 1 sheet of black 8.5 x 11 inch card stock
  • 2 Googly Eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue or Tape
  • White Pencil or Crayon

Instructions:

  1. Fold the red card stock lengthwise and cut along the fold. Glue the short ends together to form the cylinder of the hat.
  2. Cut a half circle from the black card stock to make the face of the ladybug. Cut 1 inch circles from the black card stock to make the dots (Tracing quarters works great!). Cut 2 squiggly antennas (each should be about 5 inches long).
  3. Glue the eyes onto the half circle (rounded part is the top), and use a white pencil or crayon to draw the nose, mouth, and other facial features.
  4. Glue the face (half circle) onto the hat along with the antennas and dots.
