Announcing The Kinship Care Corner
Starting in March eriesprout will be featuring a new section called the Kinship Care Corner. The Corner will be dedicated to helping and informing kinship care families.
Children who live and reside with friends of the family, or family members other than their biological parents are considered to be living in a kinship home. The Kinship Care Initiative is a program dedicated to helping parents in these unique circumstances.
The Kinship Care Initiative, can link kinship care families to a county-wide network of kinship care support, get information on available services at the state and local levels, learn about available financial assistance, gain help on legal issues, and take part in fun family outings with other kinship care families. Other services available are program resources and fact sheets on kinship care issues, including how to build on family strengths and improve family communication. Informational group support meetings are also available with speakers from the Erie community.
Please join the Kinship Care Initiative for a Resource Fair at the Erie Family Center, 913 Payne Ave., on February 20 from 9:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. Registration and light refreshments start at 9.
Come and meet other Kinship Care families and learn about services such as Erie Free Taxes, Unison Health Care, the Erie Family Center, Family Services, Senior Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Lead Hazard Control, the Union City Family Support Center, Federal Family Caregiver Support Program and more. Childcare and youth activities will also be provided.
