Every child in Erie County deserves a happy, healthy childhood. The children and babies born in our community need your help to make it their reality.
During the month of April, the Success By Six Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Committee is participating in Prevent Child Abuse, America’s “Pinwheels for Prevention” campaign as a way of acknowledging that April is Child Abuse Awareness month. Last year we had wonderful participation from many schools and agencies throughout Erie County who planted pinwheel gardens. The pinwheels represent carefree, healthy, happy childhoods and they remind us that we all have a role to play in supporting families.
Ways to participate and show your support may include displaying coloring sheets throughout your school, planting a pinwheel garden, and/or distributing resource materials from http://www.pinwheelsforprevention.org/index.html or check with local schools.
On April 4, 2010 at 10 a.m. children from Luther Memorial School, staff from the Child Abuse and Prevention Committee, and local officials will be showing their support by planting a pinwheel garden outside the courthouse, as well as participating in a press conference.
To plant your own pinwheel garden in your neighborhood, print the pinwheel-coloring sheet, fold accordingly and attach to a Popsicle stick and display them in the ground around your home. You can also print the coloring sheet, color them with your children and tape them in the windows of your home.
Lets work together this April to raise awareness among Erie County residents and support the resources that can make this happen.
Thank you for your commitment to the growth of happy, healthy children throughout Erie County.
