It is necessary to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the Holiday preparation and enjoy some of the happenings around Erie.

Families who enjoy the outdoors can plan an evening at Asbury Woods Winter Wonderland event.There is a glowing light display and snowmen in the woods which can be viewed from the boardwalk trails. When finished viewing the display you can go from 6:00-9:00 PM to the Nature Center for hot chocolate. There are crafts the children can make and gifts can be purchased from the gift shop. This event is open December 18th thru 19th as well as December 27th thru 30th. THE FEE IS $3 IN ADVANCE OR $4 AT THE DOOR..The center also offers free live animal shows every Saturday at 11:00 AM. If you need to diffuse some of the children’s energy you can do some cross country skiing or snow shoeing Tuesdays-Sunday from 10:00 AM -3:00 PM. Rentals are available for a small fee.

What is Christmas without seeing the Nutcracker presented by Lake Erie Ballet. This is held at the Warner theater and runs from December 17th thru Sunday December 19th. For tickets or information call 452-4857. There is also a Sugar Plum Fairy Party on December 19th from noon to 1:30 at the First Niagara Bank Community Room on 8th and State. The Erie Playhouse is also presenting “A Christmas Carol” December 16-18 at 7:30 PM and Sunday December 19th at 2:00 PM.

If you enjoy Christmas music why not attend the Church of the Covenant and Erie Chamber Orchestra on Sunday December 19th at 5:00 PM. This is a free event at the church located at 230 West Seventh St.

Saturday, December 18th: Odessa Place at 628 West 18th Street is offering a book, toy and item of warmth from noon-5:00 PM.

Pizza for the holidays will be on December 21st at 6:00 PM at Whole Foods Cooperative, 1341 West 26th Street. Call 456-0282 for details.

Of coarse we can”t forget a Kwanza celebration on December 26th at 6:00 PM at St James AME Church. For information call 450-6867.
